Our
Story

The Harvest Cabaret is an interactive dinner and show that pays homage to the cycles of life and growth, personified through movement, live music, art, and burlesque. This is a celebration of queer and trans talent that has been cultivated both in community and in isolation, offering a space to safely embody ourselves in our most empowered, whole, and abundantly divine forms.

We are a group of QTPOC cultivating something beautiful, raunchy, and fun that will give our people the platform to harvest the fruits of what they've sown. We are community building for the community. Indie Johnson is at the helm as the founder and creative director of the collective. They frequently host, dance, perform burlesque, and small comedic standup between acts.

Erasure of queer and trans people is a prevalent issue in our society. Many communities are left out of the stories and history they create, so we must take it upon ourselves to document our trials, triumphs, and joys. If we do not, who will? Therefore, this lounge pays homage to the cycles of life and the constant state of transformation of the world. To embody these concepts, the cabaret features Burlesque performance (solo and group), live music (lounge singers, bands, rappers), spoken word (poetry, monologue, stand-up), and visual art (paintings, graphics, sculptures). Thematically, performers take inspiration from the following keywords when designing their 5 minute (movement) - 7 minute (music) sets: Death to Rebirth, Celebration, (sexy) Release (sexy), Reflection, Catharsis, AbunDance, Divine Cycles, Acceptance, Blossom, Bloom, Sweet & Sticky Like Honey. Join us for a night of passionate catharsis. Blossoming in the Garden: Welcome to the Honey Harvest!

Through the cabaret performers have been able to pay rent, bills, travel states to share their gifts, and cultivate artistic community across the south and east coast. Participants also build their skills through the production trade crafting elements from scratch. Together we've built multiple stages (4x8x16x20- catwalk), benches, tables, seating, tents, arches, learned to cook and meal prep, and run a small artist market during the shows.

Our goal as a collective is to generate a sustainable artist economy centering women, femmes, and TGNC people through theatrical production. We have successfully had two annual cabarets- completely sold out and planning the next with the aim to host monthly shows.
